MCP servers for Gemini CLI

Google · Terminal agent

How to add an MCP server

  • Gemini CLI is Google's terminal coding agent.
  • Run gemini mcp add <name> <command> <args> for a local server, or gemini mcp add --transport http <name> <url> for a remote server. Use -s user or -s project to set the scope.
  • Alternatively, edit ~/.gemini/settings.json and add servers under mcpServers. Local servers take command, args, and env.
  • Remote servers take httpUrl for streamable HTTP, or url for SSE, with optional headers.

Skills

  • Skills are folders containing a SKILL.md file. Gemini CLI reads them from ~/.gemini/skills, ~/.agents/skills, .gemini/skills, and .agents/skills.
  • Copy the skill folder into one of these paths. The install snippet on a skill page copies it to ~/.gemini/skills.
